'Prayer is an amazing privilege - to speak directly to God as our loving Father. Prayer is vital to enjoying our relationship with God and living a fruitful life. Yet most of us wish we were better at praying.
This term we have been freshly encouraged from the wealth of teaching in the Bible, and the testimonies of church members.

Written Prayers
Prayers written by those in the past, which can help us to pray big prayers each day.
-
Good morning heavenly Father,
good morning Lord Jesus,
good morning Holy Spirit.Heavenly Father, I worship you as the creator and sustainer of the universe.
Lord Jesus, I worship you, Saviour and Lord of the world.
Holy Spirit, I worship you, sanctifier of the people of God.Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father, I pray that I may live this day in your presence
and please you more and more.Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity,
three persons in one God,
have mercy upon me. Amen. -
ALMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies,
we thine unworthy servants
do give thee most humble and hearty thanks
for all thy goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all men;
We bless thee for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for thine inestimable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.And we beseech thee,
give us that due sense of all thy mercies,
that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful,
and that we shew forth thy praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives;
by giving up ourselves to thy service,
and by walking before thee in holiness
and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost
be all honour and glory, world without end.
Amen. -
Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly,
day by day. Amen.

Structures for Prayer
A Structure for Quiet Times
Adapted from Tim Keller’s book Prayer. Taken from Week 4: How to Pray? On Your Own.
1 - Preparation
Plan to read & pray, prioritise it, and prepare your heart to approach God as you begin.
2 - Reading & Meditation
See Apps below, which can help with Bible understanding and meditation.
You could use the following questions to help meditate the truths of God’s word from the head to the heart:
A - How does this show me something of the character of God to praise?
C - How does this show me something wrong about me, to repent and confess?
T - How does this show me something to be thankful for?
S - How does this show me something that's needed, for which I can ask?
Or ask, ‘How does this passage show me Jesus?’
3 - Word Prayer
Flow from Bible meditation into prayer. Perhaps use the ACTS questions above to fuel adoration, confession, thanksgiving & supplication. Respond to how God has spoken to you.
4 - Free Prayer
For yourself, for besetting sin and temptation, for those you love, for the needs and activities of the day.
5 - Contemplation
Stop - either enjoy God’s presence or ask for help with your own weakness in prayer. And then get on with the day.
